My name is Bryn Lythgoe, I am the founder of The Java RN LLC (The Java Co. is a DBA of The Java RN LLC). I am a current nursing student pursuing my Bachelors of Science in Nursing, and have about one year left of my program. I transferred into my program with my Associates of Science in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Pre-Professional Healthcare.

I have been interested in the medical field for as long as I can remember. My life started out incredibly rocky, as I am a triplet and was born at only 26 weeks, and weighed only 2 lbs. I witnessed the numerous health challenges my brother had to face, as well as faced challenges with my own health as I have navigated throughout my life. I have always admired the medical professionals who helped us navigate what life handed us - they all had such gentle hearts and enormous compassion towards my family and to myself.

I originally began taking notes in the most boring way you can possibly imagine - I wrote every word down and used almost no colors, pictures, or mnemonics. After speaking with an academic advisor at my school, I learned that my learning style is visual learning and they recommended I create mind maps for my notes. I wasn’t thrilled about this idea, and so I took matters into my own hands. I created something even better.

I originally created my flashcards to cater to my own learning style. I used colors, mnemonics that I came up with, pictures that I hand-drew, chain reactions to tell stories, and a format that I had used across all cards. This allowed me to score an 1198 on my Pharmacology HESI exam!!

What started as building my own study guides and flashcards in coffee shops (hence the name), soon began other students asking me if I sold my notes. After careful consideration and a lot of planning, I decided to pull the trigger and list them on Etsy! I do work a full time job and I am in school full time, so new products may trickle in slowly. Please be patient as I continue to build my business. I have built everything I have from the ground up, entirely on my own, and all of the funds from this business are going towards my own nursing school tuition.

I created a video on TikTok about an experience I had where my Pharmacology Flashcards came in handy and helped me remember a contraindication between propranolol and albuterol/an asthmatic patient. This video blew up over night! Suddenly, so many students, medical professionals, random individuals began purchasing my products. I was THRILLED!

I was so excited that my product was truly making a difference in other peoples’ lives and making studying easier, as it had done for me. I hope this product line continues to help others make studying more simple and more FUN! I have big plans on extending my product line and creating an environment for future healthcare professionals and students to feel safe to study and hangout in.
